GET READY TO IMPROVE YOUR WELLBEING ONE DAY AT A TIME

"WHAT IS THE WELLBEING 40 DAY CHALLENGE?"

The Centre for Wellbeing at NEF (the new economics foundation) has developed ‘Five Ways to Wellbeing’: a set of evidence-based actions to improve personal wellbeing.

By doing one or more of these actions for 40 days, the hope is that it becomes a habit and your overall wellbeing is improved.

The 5 Ways to Wellbeing

  01 Connect

Connect with the people around you. With family, friends and colleagues and neighbors. At home, work, school and in your local community. Think of these as the cornerstones of your life and invest time in developing them. Building these connections will support and enrich you everyday.


  02  Learn

Learn something new. Rediscover an old interest. Sign up for that course. Take on a different responsibility at work or home. Fix a bike. Learn to play an new instrument or how to cook your favorite food. Set a challenge you enjoy achieving. Learning new things will make you more confident as well as being fun.

 03  Active

Be Active.  Go for walk or run. Step outside. Cycle. Play a game. Garden. Dance. Exercising makes you feel good. Most importantly, discover a physical activity you enjoy and suits your level of mobility and fitness

   04  Notice

Take Notice. Be curious. Catch sight of the beautiful. Remark on the unusual. Notice the changing seasons. Pray. Savour the moment, whether you are at work, eating lunch or talking with friends. Be aware of the world around you and what you are feeling. Reflecting on your inner being and your experiences will help you appreciate what matters to you.

  05  Give

Do something for a friend or stranger. Thank someone. Smile. Volunteer your time. Join a community group. Donate to a cause that you believe in. Look out, as well as in. Seeing yourself and your happiness as linked to the wider community can be incredibly rewarding and creates connections with people around you.

  • Talk to someone new; 
  • Meet friends for coffee
  • Turn your phone off for an hour a day
  • Go for a walk each day in silence
  •  Smile at someone each day

  • Take some time for yourself
  • Reflect on how you are feeling
  •  Pray
  • Eat lunch outside
  • Make your own lunch
  • Go for a run
  • Cycle halfway to work 
  • Kick back with a friend or family member who needs support

Increase your Wellbeing

  • Don’t take Netflix to bed
  • Plank for one minute
  • Join a club or group; 
  • Take up a new sport
  • Stop to help someone struggling with their bags
  • Hold the door open for someone
  • Do a chore for your family 
  • Show appreciation for someone publicly
